Seward Community Health Center

Good health comes from more than a visit to your provider. We're committed to connecting patients with all the resources needed to live a full, healthy life.

We're also an amazing place to work! Seward, Alaska is a small, picturesque town located on the road system 120 miles south of Anchorage and is surrounded by beautiful snow-capped mountains in the center of Kenai Fjords National Park. Seward offers year-round opportunities for outdoor activities including skiing, kayaking, fishing, hiking, biking, boating, wildlife viewing, and so much more. If you enjoy a dedicated community, adventuring up mountains, between glaciers and in waters, or sightseeing, going on wildlife tours or bird watching, Seward is the place for you!

We offer great benefits including generous paid time off, medical and retirement benefits, annual CME allowances, and the ability to truly make a meaningful difference for our community.

SCHC is a federally qualified health center. We welcome anyone in need of quality, affordable healthcare by providing integrated, patient-centered primary care for a variety of illnesses and conditions for the entire family. SCHC is the leading provider of healthcare services in the Eastern Kenai Peninsula, with passionate, dedicated staff who work daily to help increase access to services for our community members. When we hire, we are seeking additional staff who will add to our ability to make our community and SCHC a better place to live and work.

Our board cares deeply about the community it serves because it is the community. Our board members live and work here, so there is a passion for the work our staff does daily. We are mission-oriented, but also know how to have a good time and meet people where they are.

SCHC is recognized as a Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH). This is a model of care that puts patients at the forefront of care, using evidence-based care as the standard. PCMHs focus on building better relationships between patients and their clinical care teams. To gain recognition as a PCMH, we've gone through rigorous reviews to ensure our standards of care are top-notch. Our goal as your medical home is to proactively help patients maintain their health.

Our goal is to remove as many barriers as possible so people can be as healthy as they want to be. Check out our website to see more patient resources available in Seward and beyond, including food, housing, clothing, and more.

Company History

The Community Health Center Movement, which began in in the mid-1960s. SCHC is now one of more than 1,400 health centers in more than 9,200 communities across the U.S.

Seward Community Health Center (SCHC) was formed in 2010 when Seward residents approved an ordinance establishing the SCHC Board of Directors. The Board manages SCHC, an independent non-profit organization. We opened our doors in 2014, taking over the family medicine practice previously managed by Providence. Since that time, we have tripled our patient volume, began offering evening and weekend hours, and expanded services to include integrated behavioral health.

We are a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). FQHCs are federally funded non-profit health centers or clinics that serve medically underserved areas and populations. We provide primary care services regardless of your ability to pay. Services are provided on a sliding scale fee based on your ability to pay.
