Medical Search International has an urgent opening for a Correctional RN in Bridgeton, NJ and Leesburg, NJ.
The shifts are:
Days (6am-2:30pm)
Evenings (2pm-10:30pm)
Nights (10pm-6:30am).
The position also includes every other weekend.
Please see below for additional duties and requirements of the job:
- Staff Nurse provides direct and indirect nursing care to meet psychosocial and emotional needs of the inmate-patient including adults(18 to 64 years), and geriatrics(65+) and their family within the framework established by the correctional system.
- Staff Nurse performs assessments of inmate-patient in a variety of settings including initial intake area, health care unit for sick call, emergencies in housing, chronic care clinics and infirmary. Utilizes assessment skills that require a knowledge based on both normal and abnormal adult health status. Communicates assessment data in a comprehensive, orderly fashion verbally and in writing.
- Staff Nurse plans nursing care by identification of inmate-patient needs based on assessments. Makes appropriate, timely referrals and initiates appropriate nursing care based on institutional policies and procedures. Documents plans appropriately.
- Staff Nurse implements nursing care and medical care orders in knowledgeable, safe and cost effective manner. Documents nursing care and appropriate medically directed care in accordance with institutional policies and procedures. Provides inmate education as an integral part of total patient care.
- Staff Nurse evaluates and documents inmate-patient responses to aspects of health care and makes appropriate referrals to members of the health care team. o Staff Nurse as team leader or charge nurse, delegate duties to other health care team members based on their skill, knowledge and experience, and guides the provision of care by others.
- Staff Nurse assists physician in minor medical/surgical procedures. o Staff Nurse transcribes and posts all therapeutic orders generated by the physician. o Staff Nurse initiates and documents prescribed treatments for nursing interventions in compliance with policy and procedure.
- Staff Nurse administers routine and/or PRN medications as ordered. o Staff Nurse utilizes effective communication skills by demonstrating respect, concern and courtesy in all interpersonal relationships.
- Staff Nurse communicates information in an accurate, concise and timely manner.
- Staff Nurse protects confidentiality of information in written and verbal communications.
- Staff Nurse participates in problem-solving activities of the health care team by attending unit meetings, utilizing positive interpersonal skills and appropriate channels to initiate change.
- Staff Nurse functions as a role model for other health care unit personnel and maintains harmonious relationships with security, inmate-patients and members of the health care team.
- Staff Nurse uses current knowledge to promote a safe environment for providing health care to inmate-patients.
- Staff Nurse maintains clinical area in clean, neat, safe manner and participates in required counts and cleaning assignments.
- Staff Nurse adheres to institution and medical unit infection control policies. o Staff Nurse understands and adheres to safe correctional nursing practices and adheres to institutional security directives.
- Staff Nurse adheres to environmental safety guidelines, guidelines, policies and procedures. Participates in fire and disaster programs and drills as appropriate. o Staff Nurse maintains current professional skills.
- Attends appropriate in-service offerings by UCHC.
- Staff Nurse participates in offering education to inmates, security officers and other members of the health care team.
- Staff Nurse accepts assignments and extra duties with flexibility and willingness to participate in activities other than direct patient care.
- Staff Nurse adhere to personnel policies to enhance the operation of the health care unit. o Staff Nurse conforms to dress code.
- Staff Nurse adheres to attendance policy.
- Staff Nurse reports to work at designated time.
- Staff Nurse remains at assigned post until properly relieved.
- Staff Nurse maintains required annual licensure and credentialing requirements and provide evidence of such at Supplier’s initiative.
- Staff Nurse understands and adheres to Rutgers’s compliance standards as they appear in RBHS’s Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
- Staff Nurse keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and Rutgers’s regulations, laws and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
- Staff Nurse performs other related duties as assigned.
- Staff Nurses’ Required Credentials: Licensed as an RN in the state of New Jersey. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) Certification meeting the standards of the American Heart Association (AHA).
