Job Description
Attend to resident medical and health care needs in a professional and timely manner
Prepare for physician visits; review charts and vitals
Assist physician with histories and physicals
Receive, record and implement physician’s orders
Schedule labs, retrieve results and follow-up as necessary
Order prescriptions and medications; refill as needed and prescribed
Update, correct and maintain resident medication sheets and charts
Communicate daily with Director of Nursing regarding resident health concerns and changes of condition
Manage the administration, distribution and record keeping of resident medications
Perform and document monthly health and hygiene checks
Communicate resident health issues to designated families or guardians
Coordinate with staff concerning medical, dental and other health-related appointments for residents
Ensure staff compliance with health-related regulatory requirements
Accompany resident to medical appointments as necessary
Conduct medical and health training for staff and residents
Administer TB, flu and other shots
Measure and record resident’s vital signs, such as height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration
Supervise nurse aides and medication aides
Collect samples, such as blood, urine, or sputum from patients, and perform routine laboratory tests on samples
Help residents with bathing, dressing, maintaining personal hygiene, moving in bed, or standing and walking
Requirements
Minimum of 2 years professional nursing experience in a long-term care setting preferred
Current state nursing license
