Matrix Providers is hiring a Psychiatric Technician to join our team of talented professionals who provide health care services to our U.S. Military Service Members and their families at the Naval Medical Center located in San Diego, CA.
- Setting: Outpatient
- Role: Psychiatric Technician will provide essential care and support for patients in outpatient setting.
- Compensation: $29/hour + $4.41/hour for Health & Welfare
- Schedule: Full- time | M-F, days | 40 hours per week

- Start Date: Pending credentials/security approvals, which can take 4-6 weeks.
Psychiatric Technician Qualifications:
- Experience: One year (1) of experience as a Psychiatric Technician after graduation.
- Degree: Certificate
- Psychiatric Technicians will have the ability to work at NMCSD while working to obtain their Certificate or License (must be obtained within 6 months of hire
- Education: Graduation from an accredited Psychiatric Technician Program;
- Or completion of equivalent education and experience that meets the requirement of the American Association of Psychiatric Technicians
- Or completion of education and experience as a behavioral science specialist/technician in the United States military and proof of having completed an Armed Forces course involving a psychiatric technician training
- Or civilian course from an accredited school in the care of behavioral health patients
- Must possess a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from either the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.
- Perform ongoing risk assessment
- Assist in maintaining therapeutic milieu
- Escort patients safely on and off the unit
- Monitor patient safety
- Perform physical restraint procedures
- Manage agitated patients
- Identify and report symptoms of homicidal or suicidal patients
- Conduct line of sight one-on-one observations
- Respond to emergency situations
- Monitor and discontinue IV fluids
- Perform a range of diagnostic support duties
- Conduct psychiatric testing/screening evaluations
- Perform basic assessment procedures
- Identify mental health and nursing diagnoses
- Provide patient education
- Obtain and record vital signs
- Develop a therapeutic relationship with psychiatric patients
- Observe patient progress during treatment
- Conduct or assist in treatment and rehabilitation of patients
- Conduct group and individual counseling
- Conduct therapeutic community and milieu activities
- Institute precautionary measures to prevent patient injury or suicide
- Assist patients with nutritional, hygiene, and comfort measures
- Assist with the care of individuals experiencing acute and post-traumatic stress reactions
- Coordinate with other agencies regarding care, treatment, prevention, rehabilitation, and administrative functions
- Contact military and community agencies to obtain collateral information
- Explain and interpret mental health services to patients or others
- Assist in or arrange patient referrals to public, private, and military community agencies
- Organize and facilitate patient groups and activities
- Maintain records on patients
- Conduct data entry and retrieval on computer systems
- Operate outpatient front desk areas
- Schedule patient appointments
- Coordinate and assist Primary Care Providers
- Ensure proper maintenance, construction, and security of records
- Prepare and pull outpatient records
- Perform End of Day processing
- Prepare and maintain treatment records
